The Walk-On Wander

Leave the car in Edmonds. Savor the salt air and village charm within blocks of the dock.

  1. 9:40 AM

    Walk off the ferry

Foot passengers roll off first. Bonus: WSF collects the walk-on fare only on the Edmonds side, so your ride home from Kingston is already paid. The whole town is flat and close — no plan B required.

  2. 9:50 AM

Coffee and a treat at Over the Moon

A mother-daughter owned cafe since 2020, just a few minutes from the dock and open daily from early morning (except Tuesdays). Get a sweet or savory baked treat with your coffee and take it slow in their cozy indoor area with local art on the walls or amidst refreshing greenery on their back deck — the boat crowd thins out fast.

Mike Wallace Park, marina boardwalk, and Saltair Beach

Wander the marina docks, watch sailboats come and go on Appletree Cove, and take the winding stairs down to Saltair Beach to look for treasures at low tide. Don't forget the historical market and dedication of the viewing platform on the east side of the ferry parking lot.

  4. 12:05 PM

    Lunch at Sourdough Willy's Pizzeria

Pizza built on a century-old sourdough starter — the crust is the point. Opens at noon daily, on the corner across from the ferry terminal. If pizza's not the mood, The Saucy Sailor next block over does gourmet fast-casual with vegan and gluten-free options.

Stroll up to the Village Green

An easy 10-minute walk from downtown brings you to Kingston's community heart — big lawn, community center with rotating artwork displayed monthly, the Kingston library, playground, and community garden. There are also trails through the Village Green woods if you prefer to stay outside.

  6. 2:30 PM

    Milkshake at The Grub Hut

Old-school burgers-and-shakes joint on the walk back toward the dock. A shake for the road is the correct move. They're call-in friendly if there's a line: (360) 881-0147.

    Amble back for the boat

From the Grub Hut, you're roughly 10 minutes from the terminal. Take a picture at the Kingston "big chairs" by the gazebo on your way to the terminal. Watch the ferry come in, and board for free — you paid in Edmonds.
